Lover of Jesus...A Wife...A Mother...A Daughter...A Sister...A Friend...A Runner...A Baker...An Adventurer...yeah, that about sums it up!

Rock 'N Roll Marathon (Part 2)

We got dropped off to the starting line (another well-deserved shout out to Michelle Ortiz!) at about 5am. The race started at 6:15am.

We went for our first round of potty stops, and then we took some photos. :0)

Just me...

All of the girls...

Just family...

My sister Jenni wore this shirt...

We were all so excited, and this time together was a lot of fun. Soon after, Katie had to break away from our group, and she went and joined up with her running club.

The rest of us made our way over to the port-a-potties for our 2nd potty break.

After that, we dropped off our bags at the baggage check, and then made our way to the starting line. Jenni & Haley were headed to the back of the pack, as their projected finishing times were longer, and therefore, they were placed in deeper corrals.

My dad and I were in the same corral, and were headed up near the front.

Even though I had stressed this whole training season that I wanted this to be an individual journey, in the last 2 weeks my dad was insistent upon him and I running this race together. As crappy as it sounds, I was not excited about that. I have been consistent in my running and he has not been. Unfortunately, in the middle of our training season, he had suffered a few injuries...pulled muscles and such. He did recover from the injuries, and this guy has come back to not only match my pace, but he has been DOMINATING my pace times in the training runs. He kept saying over and over how close we were in our times, and I kept telling him over and over how NOT close we were! The facts don't lie! Not only was he wanting to run this race with me, but he was insistent that we would finish this race at a time/pace that I was 100% uncomfortable with. I kept telling him that we were not going to finish that fast. It was like talking to a brick wall. He kept telling other family members over and over about how we were going to run this race together and how we were going to finish in about 4 hours and 30 minutes. I kept correcting him and saying we were MAYBE going to finish in 5 hours. It was a lost cause with him! He was all about "fast, fast, fast," and I was all about "survival." I finally just said, "mmmmhmmmm" and I told myself that I would figure it out on race day. And once I gave in, I began to get excited about running this race with my dad. After all, who gets to do that!?!? SO cool!

I thought I had finally wrapped my head around running with my pops, when all of the sudden, we are standing in the corral, literally 2 minutes away from them starting the race, when he announces that he has to go pee...for a 3rd time!!! I looked at the LOOOOONG line at the port-a-potties, and told him, "No." I too needed to go to the bathroom (for a 3rd time) but my Aunt Mary (a seasoned marathoner) had told me at my last race when I was trying to pull these same shenanigans at the start of The Safari Park Half Marathon a few months ago, that you don't really need to go...you are just nervous...forget about it. I believed her then (and I never "went" for the entire half marathon that day), and I believed her words now in that moment with my dad. But what had I been saying about talking to a brick wall??? My dad was going to the bathroom. "Just wait here hunny, I will be right back." SERIOUSLY!? The race is S-T-A-R-T-I-N-G! I finally jump on board your "fast train" and now you are pumping the breaks!? Yeah. I waited...and waited...and waited. They had started the race, and they had let every corral in front of us go. As our corral was moving closer towards the starting line, my dad had ran back to tell me that he was close to the front of the bathroom line, and to just stay put...he'd be right back.

I was bugged. Racing is like 10% physical and 90% mental. He had totally taken me out of my mental game. But I had a choice...I could let it REEEEALLY bug me, or find a way to cope. I told myself to get over it. It doesn't really matter. I'm not really "competing" in this race. I'm here to give a marathon my best effort...and my best effort isn't dependent upon me starting 5 minutes ago, or 20 minutes from now. My start time doesn't begin until I cross the start line. Chill out.

I texted some peeps...and I waited patiently (honestly) for my dad to come back.

Fiiiiinally he comes back to the corral (we were pushed back 2 corrals becuase our corral was already moved way up ahead), and it was go time!

Rock 'N Roll Marathon (Part 1)

It feels like a dream.

I can't believe that everything I had worked so hard for, researched and obsessed about, is now finally over. It felt like race day was never going to come. But it did.

My family carb loaded together the night before at my nephew's birthday party. After the party, my mom took my kiddos with her and they had a sleep over at my mom's best friend's house...shout out to Barbara! My mom (and Rick) had to work on race day, and so "Grammy Barb" was going to watch my kids while my mom was at work. Before the kids left, I had them each draw a picture on my arm with a Sharpie marker. I thought the idea was brilliant. I was surprised that I had come up with the idea on my own. I was shocked that in all of the books and articles I had read on marathon running, and in all of the conversations I had with other marathoners, and at the few races that I have actually participated in, NO ONE mentioned having their loved ones "tag" them before the race!?!? I quickly realized why. My kids drew their sweet little pictures on the tops of my hands and up my arms...and after I had left them, within a couple of hours, the smell of the Sharpie ink on my arms was making me nauseous. After I had gotten home from the party at about 8pm, I was completely amped about the race the next day...I couldn't sleep. All I could think about was the race...and the smell of the Sharpie...not a good combination. I decided to take a bath in an effort to help calm my mind and my stomach. It worked.

Eventually I felt tired, I went to bed, and at about 10:30pm, I finally looked at the clock for the last time. Overall I slept way better than I had anticipated. I definitely woke up a few times though and glanced at the clock...12:30...1:30...3:00. My alarm was set for 3:20 so when it became 3:05 and I still hadn't fallen back to sleep, I decided that it was just time to get up.

In addition to the kids drawing pictures on the tops of my arms, I had also wanted to write 2 Bible verses on the underside of my forearms so I could read them while I was running. For sure I wanted the verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."...that had been something I had told myself over, and over, and OVER throughout my training when things got tough! But on race morning, I was too lazy to get my Bible in the other room, and so I was searching in Rick's Bible for the actual verse and couldn't find it. I was SO bummed. Instead, on that arm, I just wrote, "You never quit."

And then, I had been praying for a week or so about another verse I wanted to write on my 2nd arm. I had recently read the Bible from front to back, and I am now in the process of reading the Bible from back to front. I have gotten through all of the New Testament, and now I am in the Old Testament again. Unfortunately though, I am in some really tough books like Amos, Obadiah, Micah, etc. Since I have been in the Old Testament, I have found these particular chapters to be difficult to apply to my current life situations. I have been struggling with getting "fed" by them. I had recently thought about abandoning my path in reading the Bible in this order, and just jump to a different book, but I didn't. I just kept plugging along. I am so glad I did. Because one day, early last week, I came across my 2nd-arm-verse! I'm in the book of Joel, and after a long painful drought in the land, God had mercy on His people and the verse reads, "Be glad..and rejoice in the Lord your God...He has poured down for you abundant rain..." (Joel 2:23) As soon as I read it, I thought, "That's it!" When I am out running that race, it's going to be hard. I'm sure there will be moments when I feel like I can't do this....I can't go on. I needed a reminder of God's mercy. His kindness. His abundant love for His people. THAT verse made it my arm! :0)

After writing on myself, I got to work on getting dressed. Even though I had laid out my clothes the day before, and packed my "checked bag" for after the race, there was still a lot to do on the morning of. While I was getting all of my gear on, I also ate a plain toasted bagel. Eventually it was time to leave, and I was ready. I left to go pick up my fellow runner, and long time childhood friend, Ms. Haley. I picked her up at 4am.

We then headed to the trolley station to meet up with all of our other runners, and equally as important...our "shuttle" driver! That was the BEST idea ever! Katie (my other friend, and fellow marathon runner) had heard from her running coach that it is a nightmare to try and park with all of the other runners, and take the provided shuttle service to the starting line. Her coach had suggested that you find someone who could drop you off at the starting line. Coach was RIGHT! Our friend Michelle is an EARLY riser, and while 4:30am is not as early as she is used to getting up, we knew that it was at least in her range of consideration. She was kind enough to accept our plea. We saw cars on the freeway stopped for MILES going nowhere, and we were passing them all! I felt like I was playing the game "Chutes and Ladders" and I was lucky enough to land on that REALLY TALL ladder at the bottom of the board, that lead you aaaaaaall the way up near the finishing square. Stopped traffic drives me bonkers, and I was so blessed to not have to have the traffic stress me out on race morning!

Michelle was able to drop us off within a block of the race festivities.

Race Expo!

I have been looking forward to the race expo for WEEKS! This is where we pick up our racing bib (our race number) and our "swag bags." Because there are over 35,000 runners in this race, they have the expo at the San Diego Convention Center, AND it is held on 2 different days!

When I had signed up to do this race with friends and family, I had always envisioned my little racing team eating our final carb-loading meal together the night before the race. However, I must not have expressed that vision to my other runners. My friend Katie had joined a running club to keep her accountable during the training season...her running club (at one point) was scheduled to eat together the night before the race. And then my sister Jenni had scheduled my nephew's birthday party the night before the race. For a few days, I must admit, I was a little bummed that the entire racing team wouldn't be spending Saturday night, dining together. But God has so much MORE for me than the things I can dream up!

Because I knew Katie and I weren't going to be dining together on Saturday night, we had decided to do the race expo together. But not just that...we chose to make a whole day of it. We were going to do the expo, and then drive the race course, and then carb-load for our pre-pre-race dinner together at Pat and Oscars.

The kids and I picked up Katie and her kids in the morning, and then we all drove to the expo. I don't know why I was shocked, but there was an ENORMOUS crowd waiting to get in to the expo! We waited in line for a bit...

After that line, we went inside the expo, and then we waited in much shorter lines to pick up our racing bibs...

After that, we soon ran into my sister Jenni and all of her littles. We had some fun at the "count down" sign...

Later, my dad had shown up to get his bib, and my sister Jenni and he got together at the sign as well...

We then picked up our racing shirts, and our swag bags. I preferred the design of the Safari Park Half Marathon shirts better, but these goodie bags were FAR superior! (If you remember, they never even gave us goodie bags at the half marathon, LOL!)

After we got all of our free stuff, we meandered through the rest of expo. There were hundreds of booths selling you all kinds of fun racing gear, and clothing. They also had a grip of booths letting you sample their energy bars, and energy drinks. They had booths selling gimmicky tools to aid you in your aches and pains after the race, and they had other booths selling mementos for the racing experience. I bought into that, LOL! I purchased my latest charm for my charm bracelet...

After that, we then hit up a few more photo ops. The finish line...

The Rock 'n Roll Elvis booth...

Overall, the kids were excellent. I'm so glad they got to be a part of the excitement leading up to this race. They even got to make signs at the expo to cheer us on...

After 2-3 hours at the expo, we left. Next on the agenda: drive the course. In all of the marathon training books I had read, it was said that driving the course is extremely beneficial. It will help you to pick out little milestones along the way...that restaurant...that church...that billboard, etc. Jenni drove it separately from us, but both her and Katie, 100% agreed with the philosophy in the books. They both had quite a bit of anxiety in the prior days, and they found it encouraging and reassuring to see where they were going to be running on race day. However, on THIS day, I was actually without anxiety about the race, and I was only excited about our adventure...driving the course, completely FREAKED ME OUT! I don't know if this is where "ignorance is bliss" or what, but to see the expansion and reality of 26.2 miles was discouraging! Every time I would see one of these signs, a little panic would set in...

The city was preparing for the race. I had been preparing for the race. But am I ready? Can I really do this? Can I REALLY run from Balboa park, down to downtown San Diego, back up the 163 freeway, into Clairemont, turn around, and run through Mission Bay, Fiesta Island, and then into the Sea World parking lot? How am I going to do that?

Again, my issue is the walking thing. If I wasn't set on running the entire distance, then there wouldn't be a seed of doubt or anxiety. I am 100% convinced that ANYONE can walk 26.2 miles at one time. But as I have explained before, I have this mental block about walking. In the beginning I thought it was a no-brainer that I would have to walk a portion of this race. But in this training, I have been able to PUSH myself to run 99% of these distances. I THINK I would feel like a failure if I had to stop and walk a portion of this marathon on Sunday. Now, keep in mind, I am NOT belittling the journey of my fellow runners. Jenni has made it very clear that walking is ABSOLUTELY part of her plan, Katie has also told me that she expects to walk a portion of this race. And for them, I don't think they are weak for walking. But for me, it's like I know what I have accomplished thus far...I know that my body must be capable of running the whole distance. But after training for 8+ months, having put all of this time, energy and money into this race, and should I feel like I need to walk, I would HATE to feel like a failure when I cross the finish line. That would be SO unfortunate!

OK, back on track...we drove the entire distance, and even drone THROUGH the finish line...

Seeing the starting line, the finish line, and all the different stages that the bands will be playing on throughout the course was super neat!

After the hour (or more) it took us to drive the route, the kids were restless...it was definitely time to eat! Believe it or not, I don't have any pictures of our eats (very un-chubby-diaries of me!) but it was all standard Pat and Oscars...pizza, bread sticks, pasta, BBQ chicken, salad, and...WATER to drink!

It was a GREAT day! I don't think I would have mapped out this whole day with Katie's family if I didn't feel like we need to do some pre-race bonding. But not only did I get to spend ALL of Friday with her, but now I get to spend Saturday night eating a pre-race spaghetti dinner with my dad and Jenni (and the rest of my family) at my nephew's birthday party tonight. And the ultimate-super-cool-very-best part is...on race day, I am picking up my other racing teammate, Haley, at 4am...we are driving to a trolley stop where we are meeting the rest of the team at 4:30, and all of us (Me, my dad, Katie, Jenni, and Haley) are all being driven together to the starting line by non-other-than Mrs. Michelle Ortiz! I am so glad that we will have the opportunity to be together for about 30 minutes before we are split up into our different racing corrals, and start this scary and EXCITING journey on our own.

Until after the race...this is Elizabeth, a non-marathon runner, signing out.

Cupcakes, Cupcakes, and Cookies, Oh my!

This past week was a big baking week.

I completed my biggest baking order to date so far. For one single event, I made 73 cupcakes, and 60 sugar cookies. I think they turned out pretty cute, and I was super grateful for the opportunity! Happy 1st Birthday little Christiana!!!

Within 24 hours of that party we were invited to a last minute Memorial Day Weekend pot-luck. We enjoyed delicious carne asada tacos, homemade rice and beans, delicious homemade salsa, my new favorite treat...a combination of cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and orange zest...you dip fruit into it...sooooo good!...and then I was asked to bring 48 cupcakes for dessert...

2 days later was Wyatt's first piano recital! Shout out to my son...he made us so proud!!! He has been taking lessons for just over a year, and all of OUR hard work in practicing daily had paid off when he took the stage on May 31st...

Wyatt's piano recital happened to be the same day as his Godmother's (my sister Jenni) birthday. When I found out the date, I had mentioned the connection to Wyatt. Without my prompting, at his very next piano lesson, Wyatt asked his teacher to teach him how to play "Happy Birthday" so he could play it for his Godmother at the recital. We have been practicing it for months, and he made her night when he pulled her up to the piano after the official recital was over, and played the tune for her...

After the recital there were refreshments for everyone, and I made festive cookies...

That was the end to my baking for the week.

121 cupcakes, and 99 sugar cookies later, I had my final personal training session at the gym. Between my vacation, and all of these treats, I had a lot to work off! Hence, the sweat...

I'm bummed that my training sessions are over. :0( That was definitely a cool luxury, and I would be stoked to have the opportunity to train with a personal trainer in the future. He introduced me to exercises that I never would have known how to do on my own, he instructed me on how to do the exercises properly (and corrected me when I wasn't), he gave me encouragement when I wanted to quit (I.HATE.PLANK.POSITION.), and he pushed me to do things I thought I wasn't capable of doing. SUPER neat! I have never sweat so much, and I have never felt so sore...but in a totally GOOD way!

Thursday was my last big "Hoorah!" before the marathon. Each runner in the marathon won a free padre ticket, and then additional tickets at a discounted price to any one home-game in the month of June. Rick and I took the kiddos to see the Padres lose...ahem, PLAY...the Houston Astros. We had a super fun time together...

We snacked on peanuts, candy, chips (all things we purchased ahead of time), and then hot dogs and ice cream at the game.

No more pigging out before the race. My eating has to be spot-on in the days leading up to Sunday. The last thing I need is to be sitting in the port-a-potties for 26.2 miles! :0(

Vacation- Day 6 (Final Day!)

Early on in our trip, "Tuesday the 24th" seemed like it was approaching way too fast! I wanted more vacation! :0) But in the final 24 hours of our trip, I began to get home sick for my hunny and the kiddos. It began to feel like my reunion with them couldn't come fast enough!

I woke up on Tuesday morning, and got my workout done first thing. I then went up to our room, showered, and packed up everything. We still had quite a bit of time in Savannah, as our plane didn't leave until 2pm. We left all of our luggage down at the front desk, and we did one last surge of shopping and exploring. We said a final goodbye to the man reading the paper...

We bought MORE sugary treats...

And then we finally went and had our Southern BBQ! Our final meal in Savannah...Lunch at Blowin' Smoke BBQ!

We started with Parmesan Onion rings with a smokey ranch dipping sauce...

...and Fried Dill Pickles...

For our entrees, my mom and I shared the BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich (no picture), and my sisters each ordered the BBQ Hand-Pulled Pork Sandwich...

After lunch we headed back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. The last time we had our luggage with us in the rental car, Anna was already at the hotel so we had one less person, and one less set of luggage. This ride made for a TIGHT SQUEEZE!

We were all going to be together for our first flight from Savannah to Atlanta...

But once we reached Atlanta, Anna had to high-tail it to her flight to L.A. with just a 45 minute layover! We said a quick goodbye, and then we went our separate ways. We had a 2 hour layover, and ate this...

And then we boarded our final flight, headed for San Diego :0)...

I had opted out of watching a movie on Jenni's cool "nook" this time around, and instead I caught up on my Bible Study book, and the other reading material I had brought along and NEVER got to. After I had exhausted my self from reading, I discovered how stinkin' cool flight entertainment had progressed! It turns out you can watch LIVE TV on the airplane! For an hour I was tracking all of the crazy tornadoes that were tearing through our country...that is something I never would have the time to do at home. And then eventually I caught a glimpse of what the person was watching in front of me...the start of the AMERICAN IDOL FINALE!!! I was stooooked! I had no idea that it was on that night, and I totally would have missed it. But here I was, somewhere over the state of Texas watching the finale live...technology is SO cool!

We arrived in San Diego, I eventually said goodbye to my traveling companions, and said a HUGE HELLO to the loves of my life! They were so happy to see me...the kids were freshly bathed and in their jammies...the house was spotless...and Rick had a big smile on his face. God was so good to me. I had an AMAZING vacation...becuase every time I checked in at home, Rick and the kids were doing just fine. I owe a gigantic thank you to my mom for financially making this all happen...and I owe a gigantic thank you to my hunny for physically being at home in my place, and making me feel good about vacationing every single day that I was gone. I am blessed.

Vacation- Day 5

I slept great the night before, and I woke up promptly at 6am to get my run completed on the treadmill in the hotel gym. I busted that out, and then rallied the troops to get up and get moving so we could start our day. Today was the day that we were going to spend our day doing NOTHING but laying on the Beach at Tybee Island! We had been going non-stop the whole vacation, and we planned to have our final day to be a day of relaxation.

After we packed our bags for the beach, went down to the lobby for breakfast, and then we headed to the drug store for some snacks! We picked up some large bottles of water, and a bag of chips. As we were walking from the car to the drug store we came across a cupcake store...we of course had to go in. I selected 6 cupcakes for us to snack on at the beach. My mom came in as I was paying for the treats, and she wanted 6 different cupcakes than the ones I had chosen! In true fashion, we left with way too many desserts!

We finally made it to the Atlantic Ocean!...

Our cupcakes weren't the best SUNNY beach snack...

Our day at the beach was AWESOME! The waves were great! I was so disappointed to not have a boogie board to ride on, but I gave body surfing my best shot...I caught 2 legit waves...it was AWESOME! I would lay on the beach for an hour, and then go play in the water for a bit...I would then go lay on the beach for an hour and then take another dip in the water. My sisters went and got us lunch, and we sat on the beach and ate these delicious gourmet sandwiches on the sand. The temperature was perfect, the atmosphere was fun, and there was NO SEAWEED to be found! It was the best!

My mom had stayed back from beach day to work at the hotel. She came and picked us up in the late afternoon, and we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. This was our last night in Savannah, and we had a Grand Finale to attend! But let's not get too far ahead of myself. Anna and my mom still had not made it to beautiful Forsyth Park, and so Jenni had requested that after we got all dressed up, that we would go there and have someone take our picture in front of the fountain. We honored her request...

In my "Savannah, GA research" it was said on multiple occasions that you MUST dine at Elizabeth's on 37th. We hadn't planned to go to Charleston and eat a beautiful meal at Peninsula Grill, and so all along, Elizabeth's was going to be our solo fancy dinner out. I had booked the reservation a couple of months ago, and I had let them know that we were traveling from California to celebrate my 30th birthday, and I had asked if they could seat us at their best table in the restaurant. Based on all of the reviews I had read, I had EXTREMELY high expectations for our night. But much to my amazement my expectations were crushed to the ground, and the reality of our dining experience SOARED high above my expectations!

They turned one of the old mansions into the restaurant...

And what I didn't realize until that night, was that Elizabeth's was also celebrating their 30th birthday...they originated in 1981 as well...so neat! (At least I thought it was.)

The staff was incredible! We had 3 different waiters waiting on us all at the same time. They anticipated our every desire and need.

We had started off with Mozzerella and Tomatoes served with a warm pecan pesto...

And a Local Blue Crab Cake served over creamed corn and tomato-chive butter...

A few moments later they brought us each a complimentary appetizer sampler. There was a bite of salmon, a delicious crusted muscle, and a cheese filled puff pastry...

Again, a few moments after that, they served me a complimentary plate of their Virginia Country Ham with manchego cheese and pecan-pimiento sauce...

After the appetizers were completed they brought us our dinner salads...I am still not sure if this was included with our entrees or if they had gifted us this dish as well. Regardless, it was still a lovely surprise to us all! Fresh lettuce and herbs (grown in their garden) with a delicate slice of watermelon on top...

For our entrees...

I had chosen the Double Cut Berkshire Pork Chop with five cheese macaroni and apple-cabbage slaw...

My mom had selected the Pepper Crusted Painted Hills Beef Tenderloin with Madeira cream sauce, saut'ed broccoli, and mushroom-potato gratin...

My sisters both selected the Soft Shell Crab (I can't remember what was under it or poured over it, and becuase it was the Chef's special, it is not listed on their menu)...

I had a hard time deciding on my entree as there were many delicious things to choose from. But for me it came down to the pork chop, and this other chicken dish. However, I didn't want the chicken, I only wanted the sides that came with the chicken. I never mentioned it to anyone at the table, but would you believe within minutes of our waiters serving us our entrees, they served me a special plate of all of the sides that were on the chicken entree! Local organic asparagus, ramps, wild mushrooms, and country ham pan gravy with a mashed potato cake...

Again, I am not sure if this was included with our entree or not, but our waiters then brought us each a glass of wine. As stated earlier, I had sworn off alcohol for the rest of the vacation, but this sure was a nice gesture!

For dessert we selected 2 items. The first was the Savannah Cream Cake- Angel food and sherry laced custard cake with berry sauce and custard sauce...

And, the Fresh Fruit Cobbler- Seasonal fruits with a sugar cookie crust served with cinnamon ice cream...

At one point during our dinner my sister Anna had asked me, "When you get home from this trip, which marks the end of the celebration of your 30th birthday, do you think you will cry?" I responded, "no." But no sooner had we began to eat our desserts, when the waiters had brought me one last final surprise...a scoop of their homemade Strawberry Raspberry Sorbet. They placed the cup in front of me with a pre-lit birthday candle, and then they walked away. The girls at my table began to serenade me with "Happy Birthday", and in no time at all, the guests at the surrounding tables of this very fine restaurant joined in chorus. It was a very special moment. All I could think about is how this was my final celebration for my 30th birthday...and I began to cry. HAHAHAHA! However, it wasn't a "my party is over, I'm sad" cry...it was "I can't believe this all finally over. I am so beyond blessed" cry. That was a perfect moment. Instead of my pork chop that the waiter had so carefully boxed up for me, I wish I could have boxed up this entire dining experience to take home with me. On those few days of motherhood when life is overwhelming, I would love to peek into that box and remember how I had not one, but THREE people serving ME! On the days when I have busted my booty around the house and feel discouraged that I have to do it all over again the next day, I would love to peek into that to-go box and remember how spoiled I was on this night. On the days when life seems robotic of church, wife, mommy, gym...I would love to peek into that box and remember how uniquely special this evening was. It was magical.

After dinner we were supposed to take a ghost tour on a carriage ride, but we didn't make reservations for that (becuase we didn't know how long dinner would be), and unfortunately the tour was all booked up. The only thing any of us still wanted to do in Savannah, was Anna had requested that we get ice cream from Leopold's one more time. She was anticipating us doing that AFTER the carriage ride, but since there was no carriage ride to be had, we went straight from dinner (with dessert) to MORE dessert! :0/

We discovered that there is ALWAYS room for ice cream!
