A Battle, A Birthday, and Some Bathing Suits

As usual, our week kicked off with Cousin-Time. :0) The scraggly-haired-girls could be found enjoying each other's company...and some snacks!

These two are just the SWEETEST!!!...When they want to be. ;0)

We enjoyed a swimming play date with 2-B and her crew...

And then, the following day, we had a wonderful reunion with our Mommies group...we don't see these friends nearly as often as we would like to!...

Later in the week, the Scraggly-Haired-Duo had a make-over of sorts, and hung-out together in the mall with Auntie Jenni and Uncle Desmon...

...while I had the pleasure of sitting in with the boys at their cooking class at Williams Sonoma...

Grammy was their co-instructor. Don't they have the prettiest Grammy!?!?...

First off, the boys learned the importance of washing their hands...

And then they were seated at the table. When even the fresh-squeezed-juice makes them giggle, you know their cooking class is going to make for a SILLY experience!...

Eventually they moved on to measuring, pouring, and stirring, the ingredients to their homemade granola!...

...and after baking said granola, they used that ingredient for their homemade yogurt parfaits!

And finally, each of the kids got to make their own personal pizza...

I had such a FUN time with these knuckle heads! Even though they were especially silly at moments...one more so than the others (ahem..Zack...ahem), they had a great time, and I LOVE watching children have fun in the midst of learning! :0)

We also got to celebrate Grandpa's birthday this week. In anticipation of his par-tay, there was a lot of card creating going on in our home! There were those that preferred a sticker and stamp adorned card...

...and those that preferred a hand painted card...

Family dinner night was awesome as usual, but my favorite part was watching (and listening to) the family serenade my Dad with the ever popular rendition of "Happy Birthday"...

We all love you Dad!!!

Was that a good cupcake Samantha!?...

And finally, I will close with our study through the United States. :0) We learned all about the 10th state in our Union this week...the battle state of Virginia! We learned that so many US Presidents were from this state...most famous being George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. We learned about the many battles that were fought in this state. And, for the first time, we were schooled about the many natural findings this state has to offer...apparently there are a ton of natural caves, and bridges (A.K.A. "Natty Bridge") that reside in the state of Virginia.

We spent one of our afternoons this week with a hunk of playdough trying to recreate these massive bridges...

Later in the week, we reenacted one of the famous battles that were fought in the state of Virginia. But first, there was rearranging of furniture for the all important forts to be built...

And then it was war between the The North and The South! The kids were heavily armed with grenades (A.K.A. poms-poms...and for whatever reason, in our home, the kids have always called them "pokey-rhyms"?????)...

There was enticing of The South...

And shielding from The North...

It was a super fun time!...

But of course...the combination of "boy + battle" always = "goes too far"! Lunging from the furniture is one thing...

...but adding larger artillery is another thing!...

War over!...Treaty signed! ;0)

We ended our week of learning with our State Dinner. This week we enjoyed the most DELICIOUS Virginia Ham, and Virginia Spoon Bread...

For dessert, we had the pleasure of making homemade vanilla ice cream! We learned that George Washington was the first person of record to purchase an ice cream maker in the United States, and we also learned that Thomas Jefferson was a HUGE fan of ice cream. Ice cream was not something known of at all in the US, but in his travels to France, Jefferson became quite addicted to the dessert, and he ordered vanilla beans to be brought back to his home "Monticello" in the state of Virginia. We used the recipe for vanilla ice cream that was found in his home. :0) It was incredible!!!

Well, that is all for now...onward and upward to next week! :0)
